From San Saba all the way down to Matagorda Bay, The Scenic Route video series – produced entirely in-house by LCRA Communications – follows Lower Colorado River Authority employees as they guide the viewer through their hometown and what it is that makes it unique. From alpacas and ten-gallon hats to BBQ, dance parties and presidents, these small Texas towns have big heart, great people and even better food.

Lockhart

A 2021 Telly Award winner, the Lockhart episode follows LCRA employee and lifelong Lockhart, Texas resident, Mary Beth Nickel, as she shows Kendall Hibdon around town. From custom neon to the state’s best barbecue, this small Texas town is getting ‘hipper’ by the day.

Details

For this series, I used a combination of techniques – layering textures, illustrations and typography – to create an imperfect, lived-in brand that’s as comfortably Texan as a favorite pair of blue jeans to add fun facts and extra tidbits about the featured town. Mixing their usual clean corporate typeface with another more decorative display font, the graphics created for this series reflect the authentic and personable small-town feel that really helps tell the story and share the flavor of some of LCRA’s unique customer cities while still feeling like it’s true to LCRA’s historical parent brand.
